The Crowne Plaza Queenstown is the perfect "in town" accommodation choice. Less than 50 metres takes you across the street and onto Steamer Wharf, and to the many bars, restaurants and shops that central Queenstown is famous for.
You can read reviews and book your room here.
Location: 93 Beach Street Queenstown
The Crowne Plaza Queenstown is one of the closest hotels to the shops and restaurants of central Queenstown. In fact you could probably throw a rock from your balcony, and land it in the main street.
The Crowne Plaza Queenstown is about 8 kilometres from the airport. You can see transport options on our airport page, as the Crowne Plaza don't currently offer a shuttle service.
The down town location is obviously fantastic. The central part of Queenstown is contained to just a few city blocks, and apart from the pubs, restaurants and shops, several of the major tour operators also have their offices in the town centre. The TSS Earnslaw departs from Steamer Wharf pretty much opposite the Crowne Plaza, and you can see it cruising up and down Lake Wakatipu from many of the lake view rooms at the hotel.
If your budget allows, book a lake view room or suite. We can never speak highly enough about the visual impact of Queenstown. Afternoon drinks, or a morning coffee on your balcony, and taking in those views, is something that will stay with you forever.
And like a lot of the nicer Queenstown hotels, there's a good range of facilities on site at the Crowne Plaza, including a restaurant and bar, which have wonderful views of the lake and mountains. Breakfast or dinner in the restaurant is a great way to start or finish your day.
The Crowne Plaza also offer secure parking (for a fee), which is a must if you have a rental car. The alternative is to pay for your parking in one of the commercial parking facilities like Wilson or Man Street. But with such a central location, the only time you may need to take the car out, is for one of those special day trips. Wanaka (via the Crown Range, Arrowtown and Glenorchy are all highly recommended).
Not a lot really.
The only common complaint as at the time of writing (mid 2025) was that some of the rooms are getting a little dated.
Because of the proximity to the street, the rooms lower down experience a little more traffic noise, so try for a room on a higher floor.
Valet parking is limited to 38 spaces and is expensive. So if you have a rental car, you may need to look at commercial parking options, as free parking near the town centre is almost non-existent.
The hotel has 139 rooms (three accessible rooms), spread over seven floors. Rooms are either their standard rooms, or their larger suites. All have a balcony. The standard rooms (23-30 sqm) have either a mountain or lake view, while the suites (55 sqm) all have lake views.
As we always recommend in Queenstown, choose a lake view, and if you can, opt for a higher floor to maximise those views.
We also recommend booking a flexible rate, just in case you need to change your plans. The rate may be slightly higher, but we always like to play it safe with any holiday accommodation. Also check your travel insurance details for coverage.

Queenstown is New Zealand's tourism hub, and its popularity continues to grow. And this can present some problems at certain times of the year.
Finding the right place to stay can be problematic in the more popular periods like the New Zealand school holidays, ski season (from June to October), and during summer (December to February). We've had people come to us distressed because they can't find anywhere to stay a month or two out from their holiday. Because of this we always book many months in advance, and the best advice that we can give is to plan early.
