Pog Mahones People Outside

Here's our choice of 5 great Queenstown pubs. Enjoy.

Pog Mahone's Irish Pub

Address 14 Rees Street, Queenstown 9300, New Zealand

One of our absolute favourites, we've put Pog Mahone's at the top of our list of "5 great Queenstown pubs".

True to its authentic roots, Pog Mahone's Irish Pub is a charming blend of traditional Irish pub culture and Kiwi hospitality.

Why It's Great

Pog Mahone's is a place where we always feel welcome, and isn't that what it's all about? It has a real buzz, and attracts a wide range of ages and nationalities, meaning that it's a wonderful place to meet new friends.

They have regular live bands, including traditional Irish music, and this creates a great party mood. There's certainly no doubt about the Irish heritage here.

The ornate wooden interiors, coupled with its central location, make it a frequented spot by locals and tourists alike.

Food and Drink

The menu features both Irish and Kiwi favorites, with a highlight being the hearty Irish Stew and the popular Beef and Guinness Pie. Our personal favourite is the stonegrill (see the picture below), where your choice of beef, lamb or chicken, is cooked by you, on a hot stone at your table. Delicious! Their drinks selection boasts an impressive range of ales, including the world-renowned Guinness and a variety of local craft beers.

Facilities

The upstairs dining area has an outdoor deck with stunning views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables, and it's the perfect spot for larger groups.  The pub also screens major sporting events, making it an ideal venue for sports enthusiasts

Perky's Floating Bar

Address Steamer Wharf, Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown 9300, New Zealand

Now this is something different, and special. We love it!

Perky’s Floating Bar offers a unique bar experience, being the only floating pub in Queenstown. It’s moored at Queenstown’s wharf, offering unparalleled views of the lake and mountains.

Why It's Great

Perky’s is extraordinary because of its setting—there’s nothing like enjoying a nip of whiskey or a cold brew, surrounded by some of the most stunning views on the planet. In the cooler months they have heating and blankets, so it's always cosy.

Food and Drink

A unique BYO food policy allows you the freedom to bring aboard takeaways from nearby eateries, while the bar itself serves a wide selection of beverages, including New Zealand wines, beers, and spirits. How about a famous Fergburger and a beer?

Facilities

Simple yet charming, Perky’s provides an intimate space that’s perfect for small groups or couples seeking a one-of-a-kind drinking experience. The rooftop deck is perfect for soaking up the sun during the day or stargazing at night. There's toilets on board, and if the weather turns sour, you can sit inside.

The only downside to Perky's, is that access is via a narrow, steepish ramp which may not be suitable for people with mobility issues (see image below).
