Fun at Flame Bar and Grill Queenstown

Fun at Flame Bar and Grill Queenstown

On 18th November 2025 our group of 4 went to the Flame Bar and Grill at Steamer Wharf Queenstown for dinner. We had never been there so were looking forward to a nice meal with some friends.

We strolled upstairs on a Monday night, only to find that they were completely booked. So we booked for the Tuesday night, and thankfully got one of the last tables. This place is VERY popular, so bookings are essential. If it's this busy in November, we can only imagine what peak seasons like the ski season and summer are like.

So what was it like?

In a word, amazing. They gave us a table next to the window which looked out over the wharf towards Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables. Beautiful views. The service was wonderful, and our host for the night was very knowledgeable about the menu and was really polite and helpful. She didn't rush us and got us a round of drinks while we decided what we were going to eat.

The menu has a good choice, with a focus on steak and ribs. They also offer various vegan and vegetarian options.

It was a difficult choice, because we kept looking at dishes as they were being delivered to other tables, and they all looked yummy.

Eventually, three of our group decided on the Rib and Steak Combo (half rack of pork ribs and a 150g eye fillet), and our other friend chose the 200g rib eye and a salad.

We waited around 15 minutes for our meal, which was pretty quick considering the crowd. As our meals were placed on the table, we were blown away. The combos were huge, and we tucked in eagerly.

The steaks were all cooked to perfection, and we all commented that they were up there with the best we have ever had. And the ribs! Oh boy. The sauce was delicious and had a bit of a tang to it, and they were also perfectly cooked. We struggled to finish, only because of the size of the meal, but we powered on.

Our host offered us the desert menu but we had no more room. Maybe next time.

We stayed for around 90 minutes, and asked our host for the account, which was around NZD$95 per person. This included a bottle of New Zealand wine and 4 beers, so not bad.

If you like meat, this is a must do if your are in Queenstown, and we happily recommend Flame Bar and Grill.

Regards
